During twenty-five years of national political direct marketing, Chip Gately has served as a consultant to every national Republican campaign committee, dozens of Senatorial, gubernatorial and Congressional campaigns, and presidential candidates including Bob Dole, Steve Forbes, George W. Bush and John McCain. Recent clients have included Speaker John Boehner, Senator Marco Rubio, Senator Chuck Grassley, Congressman Joe Wilson, Governor Tom Corbett and Governor Bob Ehrlich. In addition to his role at Response America, Chip also serves as President of emotive, a full service online advertising and direct response marketing agency.
Bill Spence joined Response America in 2005 as Director of Strategy. He manages Response America’s targeting, budgeting and strategic planning efforts for its clients. Bill began his political career at the National Republican Senatorial Committee as the Membership Services and Direct Mail Manager. He was later named Deputy Marketing Director and managed all direct mail and telemarketing fundraising operations. During the 2004 election cycle, Bill served as Finance Director of the Republican Party of Virginia. A native of Virginia, Bill is a graduate of the University of Virginia.
With over 20 years of experience in direct mail, Chip has helped his Republican political, non-profit clients and past employers raise over $500 million dollars. Chip is an expert at planning, conceptualizing and writing direct mail campaigns to expand memberships and increase revenue from existing members/donors. He has helped clients create and run multi-level programs, upgrade programs and event oriented direct mail programs. Chip has also overseen copy and design for virtually every area of direct response marketing including telemarketing scripts and follow-ups, print advertising, radio advertising, website content and direct response email.
Diana Gardner brings nearly 15 years of strategic marketing and fundraising experience to Response America. She has led fundraising, grassroots, and marketing campaigns for Presidential, Senatorial, Congressional, and Gubernatorial candidates, right-of-center organizations, trade associations, and government agencies. Before joining Response America, Diana has served as Principal at DGC, LLC, where she advised government agencies and national grassroots organizations on developing multimillion-dollar marketing initiatives ranging from direct response, multimedia, and print mediums. With an expertise in relationship development and process management, Diana is responsible for providing high level marketing positioning and cultivating external relations. A native Floridian, Diana received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida and her master’s degree from Florida State University.
With 20 years of direct response experience, Patrick Mooney brings a wealth of experience and industry-knowledge to Response America. Receiving formal training from The Leadership Institute, Pat began his career in the mid-1990s while working on campaigns in Texas and Pennsylvania. He continued his career path and served as an account executive for two well known DC-based conservative fundraising agencies, where he put his talents to use on behalf of conservative non-profits and political campaigns. As Managing Director, Pat serves as a top recruiter for new political clients and candidates. Since joining Response America in 2005, Pat’s expertise in creative design, copy writing, and list selection has helped to elevate the company’s standing. His current clients include Senators Marco Rubio, David Vitter, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett, and U.S. Representatives Michele Bachmann, Paul Broun, and Raul Labrador, among others. A native of Frederick, MD, Pat now resides in Leesburg, VA with his wife Lynn and eight children. He received his bachelor of science from Carnegie Mellon University.
Julia Wessell joins Response America after serving in the Political Division of Freedoms Watch, a conservative grassroots lobbying organization. Julia’s excellent project management and political experience is a great asset to our Account Management team. A native of North Carolina, Julia graduated from the University of North Carolina with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Lauren Hall Keene brings a combination of production know-how and political savvy to Response America. She gained extensive experience producing television, radio and print campaigns for numerous Republican candidates while working at The Stevens & Schriefer Group and led the involvement of all coalitions during Bob Ehrlich’s 2006 re-election campaign. In addition to her campaign work, Lauren has applied the political playbook to targeted issue campaigns for trade associations, accomplishing favor- able policy decisions for her clients. With this experience and her attention to detail, she is a valuable member of the Account Management Team. A native Floridian, Lauren now calls Arlington, VA home.
A 2004 graduate of Mary Washington College, Joshua comes to us with nearly eight years of direct mail experience. Prior to joining the Response America team, Joshua honed his craft writing for topnotch Republican clients like Trent Franks, GOPAC, and Bobby Jindal. Most recently, Joshua served as Associate Copywriter at Clearword Communications Group, writing high dollar direct mail for the Leadership Institute, the Lincoln Institute, Americans United for Life and other well-regarded conservative non-profits. Joshua currently resides in Burke, VA.
Janet Bell brings over 12 years of design/art direction experience in publishing, education, retail, government, nonprofits, advertising and marketing. While implementing solid design, envisioning concepts and adhering to brands she has consistently broadened her skills as a designer and mentor. Janet currently sits on the Board of Directors for AIGA, the Professional Association for design.
Matthew Hurtt joined Response America after working on campaigns in Maryland during the 2010 Mid-Term Election. Prior to that, he trained conservative activists and students across the nation with the Leadership Institute. Hurtt is originally from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where he first got involved in politics by running for local office at the age of 19 and by working on a number of federal, state, and local campaigns. Additionally, Hurtt wrote both news and political commentary for his campus and community newspaper. He is a 2009 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and holds a B.A. in History and Political Science.
Shawn Howell brings nearly 10 years of direct marketing and client management experience to Response America. Serving as a Senior Account Manager at a direct marketing agency, Shawn gained extensive experience developing and executing strategic direct response and lead generation campaigns for clients such as Verizon, Audi, Novo Nordisk, and Abbott Labs. A graduate of Virginia Tech with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing Management, Shawn now resides in Sterling with his wife Kristie and daughter Madison.
Prior to running his own fundraising company, Matt served in three conservative direct marketing agencies as an Account Executive, Vice President of New Business Development and as Strategic Marketing Specialist. He has also served in two national Non-Profit organizations as Executive Director and as Vice President of Development. His portfolio includes work for conservative candidates, political action committees, ballot initiatives, c3 and c4 organizations. Issues include pro-life and pro-family organizations, senior citizens causes, Catholic and Christian ministries, as well as economic freedom
and tax issues.
In addition to non-profit and fundraising management, strategy and analysis, Matt is a copywriter who writes monthly appeal letters, acquisition letters, brochures, newsletters, e-mail letters, Foundation Grants and Annual Reports. Matt is a graduate of George Mason University and is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE).
